What I Value Most: “Putting words into action”

(This message was a note of congratulationsfrom the author on the occasion of the BEC’s TAD launch on April 23rd 2016)

The BEC is made up of energy-sectorexperts, scholars and practitioners both from China and abroad. Their roles arevarious, including officials, professors, engineers, technicians, and companyexecutives, and their affiliations are diverse, including governments,universities, institutions, associations and enterprises (not only CentralGovernment- and state-owned enterprises, but also private enterprises).

From its very beginning, the Club hasforged an environment for free and equal discussions and dialogues, enablingits members to speak out freely and exchange ideas and thoughts on an extensiverange of topics, which closely keeps up-to-date with the latest developments ininternational energy trends, technologies, and fields. More importantly, BEChas attracted active participation from senior officials and top experts in othercountries and is playing a more and more active role in promoting academicexchanges in the energy sector and providing recommendations on thegovernment’s energy policies and programs.

Notwithstanding the success achieved by theClub, I have always warned against focusing purely on enabling discussions anddialogues and encouraged it to take things a step further and do somethingpractical, especially in the introduction and promotion of energy innovationsand new technologies. Therefore, I am very happy that the Club will belaunching the Clean Energy Technology Assessment and Dissemination platformtoday. This will enable the Club to leverage upon its strengths developed overthe years, to better serve enterprises, the industry, and the State, and toaccelerate China’s energy transformation and innovation.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations onthe launch of the platform as a first concrete step and as a new milestone forthe Club. I will not be able to join you today, but will keep a close watch fromthe very beginning and hope to be informed of today’s deliberations.
