On the 12th of November, the Beijing Energy Club held a discussion dinner with Ambassador Urban Rusnak, Secretary General of the Energy Charter in Beijing. The dinner was attended by BEC members from the NDRC, National Energy Administration, Energy Research Institute, CNPC, CNOOC, Shenhua Group, China Renmin University and other institutions.
Dr. Xavier Chen, President of the Club, introduced the background and achievements of Club, as well as the Club's view on China's energy challenges and energy policy priorities. Ambassador Rusnak introduced Energy Charter and his views on the changing picture of the global energy market. Because of its unique legally binding power, Energy Charter Treaty plays an important role in global energy governance. It makes valuable contribution to the protection of cross-border energy investments, as well as dispute settlement mechanism for energy trade and transit. China is an observer of the Energy Charter Treaty. Ambassador Rusnak expressed the Energy Charter Secretariat’s desire for closer cooperation with China.
